Mazda MX5 Mk1 1.6 Turbo Foundation Kit – Complete Fittings + Sports Cat (Turbo Not Included)

This foundation kit contains all the parts required to fit a turbo to a Mazda MX5 Mk1 1.6.

Please note: The actual turbo is deliberately excluded to give you full flexibility to choose the turbo that best suits your setup.

Designed to run with a Garrett GT2860RS, GT2871R, or any hybrid turbo using the same dimensions, this kit allows you to use:

• A budget eBay unit

• A second-hand turbo from a Nissan 200SX with compressor side adapters

• A Garrett GT2860/GT2871

• Or even the popular “Disco Potato” turbo

Recommended Compatible Turbos:

• GT2860RS journal bearing – spool at approx. 2750RPM, ideal power 230–370BHP

• GT2860RS ball bearing – spool at approx. 2400RPM, ideal power 230–370BHP

• GT2554R journal bearing – spool at approx. 2000RPM, ideal power 170–270BHP (requires adapter for turbo-intercooler pipe)

• GT2554R ball bearing – spool at approx. 1650RPM, ideal power 170–270BHP (requires adapter for turbo-intercooler pipe)

What’s included in the kit:

• All turbo fittings including oil feed (with adapter to oil pressure switch), oil return (with sump fitting), and water feed lines

• 200 cell sports catalytic converter

• Intercooler rated to 400 BHP with brackets, silicone hoses, T-bolt clamps, and aluminium pipework

• Intercooler pipework with flange for 50mm Tial-type BOV and 3/8 NPT boss for IAT sensor

• 3mm-thick log-type manifold capable of flowing over 300 BHP

• Downpipe with M18 boss for wideband lambda sensor, connecting to standard exhaust after the differential (note: no cat included, will not pass UK MOT)

• Intercooler pipework pre-flanged for BOV (compatible with Tial or aftermarket options)

• 3/8NPT boss welded in for GM-style open element IAT sensor

Additional notes:

• This kit is not designed for Mazda MAF meters; standalone management is recommended (Megasquirt, ME, AEM, Link, etc.)

• Standard injectors do not flow sufficiently; RX8 Yellow or Blue injectors recommended, or Deatschwerks/Injector Dynamics for higher budgets

• OEM clutch will not withstand turbo power; Competition Clutch Stage 4 or similar recommended
